Position Purpose & Summary

The Network Design and Optimization group is a small central team that provides consulting services to businesses and is well-versed in the design and optimization of business networks and processes. Thought leaders in network design and optimization, this team will be part of or lead optimization projects for businesses to find synergies, reduce costs and drive growth. This challenging role requires not only deep expertise in Network Design and Optimization, but the ability to apply the knowledge and teach others, to achieve business transformations. Network Design and Optimization is a critical part of the Supply Chain Planning Function in BOSC and this work is critical to the success the planning space and the businesses. The work of this group will enable Cargill to leverage strong foundational processes to drive efficiencies across the organization.

The incumbent of this position will have key responsibilities in developing and deploying business optimization tools. Responsibilities include project planning, model development, deployment, and long term support of the optimization tool. Your ability to provide technical expertise in the development of advanced mathematical models for optimization problems in a practical way is critical to success. The incumbent needs to define the technical project plan and approach, and then collaborate with business partners to deploy and sustain the technical solution. The tools you develop will bring insight to our operations and supply chain management to optimize costs on both a strategic and tactical level.

Principal Accountabilities

60% - Develop and deploy optimization models to drive strategic and tactical decisions across Operations, Supply Chain Planning, Transportation and Logistics, and Finance areas with various businesses across the globe.

15% Data and Analytics - management of the data and utilization of information in appropriate areas.

15% - Manage project and coordinate tasks with other project team members in Operations, Supply Chain, and Finance

10% - Communicate model results to a variety of stakeholders including supply chain analysts, operations leaders, and commercial leaders


Education, Experience, Skills

Required Qualification

  • 4 year degree from an accredited college/university, preferably in Supply Chain Management, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or related fields

  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of developing advanced optimization models

  • Demonstrated experience in developing complex models with commercial optimization software (CPLEX, Gurobi, AIMMS, Llamasoft, etc.)

  • At least 7 years of business experience in areas relevant to supply chain optimization, such as operations research, supply chain management, logistics, or R&D with minimum 2 years experience in Network Optimization and Design

  • Strong Data and Analytics capabilities – Well versed in end-to-end data and analytics: mining and extracting, cleansing and formatting, structuring and analyzing, and garnering information and insights. Ability to leverage large amounts of complex data sets to support business decisions by telling the story with data.

  • Demonstrated experience in creating a collaborative environment to achieve project goals

  • Curious and self-taught, must be self-motivating and driven to achieve business success

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including ability to convey complex technical information to multiple audiences

Preferred Qualification

  • Masters/PhD degree from an accredited college/university, preferably in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or related fields

  • Experience in industries with continuous processing (food, chemicals)

  • Experience in industries with batch processing and packaging operations

  • Experience with discrete event simulation software

  • Experience working in an Ag Supply Chain

  • Experience with visualization software such as Tableau

Ability to Travel 10-15% of time - globally
