This full time position is located in West Fargo, North Dakota; however please expect receiving calls from a 952 number in case you are considered. Relocation assistance is not provided .

The purpose of this position is to operate equipment associated with the elevator process. Interacts on a regular basis with sunflower hull, meal and seed truck drivers, Product handlers, crush operators, supervisors or other personnel.

Operators in this position are responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the elevator area. They will ensure that the equipment is fully operational and in good repair.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Operate all equipment associated with the elevator process, including drags, conveyors, and sunflower seed dryers including the truck dump.

  • Operate Seed Dryer, cleaning equipment, Truck Dump, and Pole barn equipment.

  • Unload multiple types of seed from rail cars.

  • Ensure accurate information of scale weights and transactions are recorded daily.

  • Properly manage all seed/dust movement – seed drying, seed transfers, and seed unloading using the basket valve switch procedure.

  • Operate rail car mover to move rail cars.

  • Operate rail car puller to move rail cars.

  • Push seed into or within bins using mobile equipment.

  • Enter confined spaces under proper permit conditions and supervision.

  • Work outdoors in a hot/cold dusty environment.

  • Operate and monitor seed storage temperature monitoring system.

  • Operate and monitor the CMC leg bearing/leg belt temperature monitoring system.

  • Perform the weekly critical safety device checks and record the results on the proper form.

  • Complete the rail car track check (list the order of the rail cars on each of the plant rail tracks) after the railroad switch has been completed

  • Understand and perform all the duties necessary in case of an emergency in the elevator.

  • Understand and adhere to state and federal Occupational Safety and Health rules and regulations as related to plant safety. Follow all Cargill safety rules and regulations.

  • Inspect buildings, grounds, and equipment utilized by facility; determine immediate and long range needs for maintenance and repair work. Enter work orders utilizing maintenance computer program.

  • Troubleshoot minor problems as required.

  • Perform light maintenance, such as replacing valves, troubleshooting conveyors and pumps etc. While safely using wrenches, air tools, hammers, various hand tools.

  • Maintain a safe and sanitary atmosphere with a high regard for environmental impact of the operation

  • Attend various mandatory safety and department meetings.

  • Communicate in a courteous and positive manner to accomplish duties effectively, working as a team with all involved.

  • Assist other crush and plant personnel as needed, and will perform any other duty as requested by the Elevator supervisor.

  • Cargill requires employees be a minimum of 18 years old to work in a production facility.

  • Must be able to perform physical job duties including bending/stooping, climbing ladders, open/close valves, shoveling, pounding with hammer and work in confined spaces.

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

  • Must be able to work under special work conditions, such as extreme heat or cold.

  • Ability to work in elevated areas.

  • Must be able to operate machinery.

  • Must be able to read/write English.

  • High School diploma or Equivalent.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Ability to work overtime.

  • Ability to work holidays, nights, weekends or different shifts.


  • Forklift certified.
