Position Purpose &Summary

Cargill has a large footprint in United Statessoy processing. Understanding the underlying supply and demand fundamentals ofUS soybeans and soybean meal is critical to positioning Cargill’s NorthAmerican and global businesses. The person in this position will be accountablefor owning Cargill’s view of short- and long-term supply and demand of USsoybeans and soybean meal. They will work alongside the CASC NA commercial soycrush team and the World Trading Group when assembling these forecasts. Theanalyst will provide price forecasts and advocate trading positions based onthe supply and demand fundamentals. They must challenge trading positionsinconsistent with economic facts and ensure that merchandising & marketingdecisions are made with the full consideration of economic information. Theanalyst will support the GTA (Global Trading Analytics) group in providingaccurate decision making information across other business groups andfunctions.

Principal Accountabilities

80% Perform fundamental analysis for UnitedStates soybean and soybean meal supply & demand. The analyst must:

- Apply sound economic thought processes toforecast monthly US soybean crush rates and soybean meal demand.

- Collaborate with the commodity traders in theWorld Trading Group and CASC NA to maintain an outlook on US exports &imports of soybeans and soybean meal.

- Create and effectively communicate tradinginsights that are actionable, timely, and accurate. These must be based onsupply & demand fundamentals and includerecommendations on flat prices, inter/intra market price spreads, oilshare, board margin, etc.

- Focus onboth futures trading opportunities and cash (more local) trading opportunitiesfor the World Trading Group and CASC NA businesses.

15% Support initatives such as theGlobalTrading Analytics long-term soy outlooks, CASC NA strategy outlooks, and CASCenterprise Soy Crush Peer Group activities.

5% Ad hoc requests for presentations & related data used in Cargillcustomer events, seminars, etc.



  • Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Ag. Economics, Business,Finance, Data Science, or related discipline

  • 3 years of experience in agriculture market analysis

  • Must have knowledge and intense curiosity about commoditymarkets and global affairs

  • Knowledge of computing and statistics

  • Ability to actively partner/collaborate with global teamsto build consensus around trading strategy

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Economics, Ag. Economics, Business,Finance, or related field

  • 5 or more years of experience in agriculture marketanalysis

  • Management experience

  • Fundamental understanding of agriculture markets/systemsand experience constructing models of economic/market behavior
