TheStrategic Marketing and Technology (SMT) Leader (Business)is responsible for leading the strategic marketing and technology staff as a member of the North America CQN business Leadership Team. The position is accountable for leading the development and implementation of the local business strategy and strategic marketing plans based on customer segmentation. This person will need to build a team of one or more Technology Application Manager(s) in the business who would provide technical sales support and will liaise with Technology Application Centers. The Technical team will have accountability for new product offerings and related financial results and will be a critical part of the CQN North America Business. This role may also need to build a Marketing team of one or more people.
This role requires this leader to be passionate about the animal nutrition business, contribute to the business leadership team, and demonstrate marketing expertise and technology leadership. This individual must have a proven track record as a leader that aligns with the culture and values of Cargill Animal Nutrition, applies her/his unique skills and experiences to positively impact business results, and commits to developing others for future business leadership.
Strategic Marketing - 25% – Lead the local business strategy development focusing on Where to Play, How to Win, M&A, and Capabilities to meet business growth targets. Partners and influences the business leadership team to ensure strategic change is embraced and successful execution is accomplished.
Develop and implement strategic marketing plans for customer opportunities identified in the strategy work.Establish a formal portfolio and innovation pipeline (offerings & capabilities) from global and local innovation to deliver the strategy. Ensure robust execution, utilizing Customer Focused Development (CFD) which includes project leadership, defining the business case, developing offerings and capabilities, clarifying required resources to compete, and achieving business goals.
Customer Focus - Lead and proactively update customer segmentation and customer unmet needs to ensure the business remains relevant and is perceived as better than the competition in target customer segments. Act as the senior leadership business tag to one or several key customers.
Align with Global SMT team for relevant species, to ensure alignment on the strategies, on local marketing needs, local New Product Services and Solutions (NPSS) pipeline and support to ensure the selected global offerings and capabilities are being rolled out in the business and have the expected financial impact.
Technology - 25% – translate strategies called out in the strategic marketing plans into technology priorities that drive technology resource allocation and research trials. Lead the technology team to ensure that the Strategic Marketing and Technology team are fully aligned with each other, with commercial needs, and with the Global SMT team.
Business Results-15% - Conduct rigorous business cases focused on delivering customer benefits for new offerings.
Lead Annual Business planning for the New Product Services and Solutions (NPSS) budget.
Cohesively work with sales leaders to measure and manage effective product portfolios and NPSS’ that deliver value to the customer and to Cargill. Proactively measure and monitor performance and identify corrective actions.
Demonstrate the ability to successfully turn easy to implement strategic customer focused plans into financial results for the business, by focusing on enhancing perceived value by target customer segments and developing a value based pricing culture and capabilities.
Talent & Capabilities - 15% - Develop strategic marketing/technology leaders and strategic marketing/technology capabilities along with identifying skills required to serve the target customer segments. Be actively engaged in the recruiting, hiring, coaching, supervising, and developing of marketing and technical staff for the animal nutrition business, including key sales roles in the business. Role model the importance of safety for all.
Tactical Marketing & Communication - 10% - Lead the tactical marketing plans for the business with respect to developing the offering defined in strategic marketing plans (people, positioning, product, pricing, packaging, place, promotion) and supervising staff in the business that translates into financial results.
Communications - oversees teams developing the right communication tools aligned with the group directions (website, product manuals, promotions, campaigns, customer events, etc.) to drive strategy to results within the business.
Collaboration - 10% – Partner with others on the business leadership team, as well as with both strategic marketing and technology leaders across Cargill Animal Nutrition (Strategic Marketing and Technology Directors, SMT global teams), and within Cargill. Build relationships, establishing a proven track record in serving the business, drafting best practices, gaining insight on new opportunities, and providing the ‘voice of the customer’.

Highly organized, self-starter able to set and follow priorities and manage multiple projects
Proven leader who has demonstrated strong analytical and conceptual skills
Bachelor’s degree in an agricultural or business discipline or related field required.
Masters degree in Business, Business Administration, or Marketing or related field preferred
7 years strategic marketing leadership experience, developing a go to market strategy, leveraging customer insight and innovation
Experience leading leaders, providing coaching, developing talent, and building a high-performance team
Experience in growing a business
Experience and proven success in strategic marketing expertise, along with leading strategic projects to impact the business financial results
Experience in fiduciary responsibility, including budgets, expenses, or pricing
Culture awareness and experience of diversity
Ability to communicate well in English (written, verbal)
