Position Purpose & Summary

The Risk Management Group (RMG) plays a key role in enabling Cargill’s strategic direction to strengthen its trading and risk management capabilities. RMG is on its journey to becoming a world-class risk management practice, and continuing to execute on its multi-year strategy is paramount to its success. The Cargill Animal Nutrition (CAN) Market Risk Manager is a member of RMG embedded within the CAN organization driving best in class market risk management, while also, working with other RMG teams and the Cargill Animal Nutrition (CAN) / Cargill Protein and Salt ( CPS) Enterprise Risk Lead in executing RMG’s strategy.

The Risk Manager will actively contribute to RMG’s success in delivering on these capabilities within the business they support. The Risk Manager will ensure that all significant market risks are properly identified, quantified and communicated to support RMG’s value preservation mandate. In addition, this role will endeavor to partner with the commercial leadership team of the business and other embedded functions to develop and effectively communicate meaningful insights on the risk profile at the business/enterprise levels.

This role supports the Groups within the Cargill Animal Nutrition (CAN) Enterprise, which are global, core businesses within Cargill’s operations reporting to the CAN/CPS Enterprise Risk Lead.

Principal Accountabilities

60% Engage with the business to drive sound risk management processes, Quantification and understanding of business risks and insight that support improved business performance.

Build deep understanding of CAN trading and merchandising intentions and lead discussions on risk quantification metrics with commercial teams and the continuous improvement efforts on these metrics. Partner with the CAN RMS Trading Leaders to deliver trading performance metrics and insights to the business. Develop in depth familiarity with markets to deliver risk insights to commercial teams around potential outcomes and stress scenarios , drive a risk/reward culture by constructively challenging risk deployment. Lead regular market risk and risk/trading performance meetings which drive alignment and consensus around risks and opportunities as well as performance learnings. Build deep understanding of the business, strong engagement with the commercial teams to drive a deeper understanding of implicit and explicit risks to ensure no surprises, lead assessment around any risk failures or breaches that do happen. Develop appropriate risk education and training within the group. Follow fiduciary obligations of the role. Ensure business awareness and compliance with all CRC/FRC policy directives [i.e. limits, P&L flags, risk profiles etc.]

15% Partner with the Enterprise Risk Manager and other group or business risk managers within the enterprise.

Partner with the Enterprise Risk Lead to ensure CRC and other risk policies and procedure are fully complied with in the group and that issues/concerns within the group are escalated. Liaise with other group risk managers and the Enterprise Risk Lead to share learnings and best practices. Approve delegated limit and deal requests on behalf of RMG and/ the CRC. Support enterprise and central teams portfolio analysis and insights. Identify and support continuous improvement opportunities.

15% collaboration and development of RMG enterprise analysts

Work with the Enterprise Risk Lead to develop high performing and engaged teams that model Cargill’s leadership expectations, guiding principles, and behaviors. Assure the ongoing education, development, and career growth of the RMG team.

10% Build strong, collaborative relationships with key enterprise and functional leaders.

Drive and enhance the partnership with Commodity Compliance, FP&A, and internal Audit to Ensure awareness of developments in their areas and bring RMG perspective to functional discussions.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • 3 years of trading, market risk, FP&A, market analytics, or equivalent in a financial or commodity trading environment

  • The ideal candidate should be detail-focused, process-oriented and possess excellent data management and report development ability

  • Demonstrated strong interest in commodity markets and commodity risk management

  • Should have proven ability to operate in a complex trading environment and manage conflicting demands

  • Candidate will be commercial minded with a keen understanding of how their business experiences profit and loss

  • Have demonstrated the ability and desire to learn and apply new concepts and methods and a naturally inquisitive mind

  • Self-starter, unafraid to query, question, or challenge assumptions

  • Comfortable providing and defending analysis where there is ambiguity
