Cargill’s Agricultural Supply Chain – North America (CASC NA) connects agricultural producers to food, feed and industrial customers through a seamless supply chain. We help our customers compete in the global market and efficiently deliver products from origins to destinations through our marketing, sourcing, originating, storing, trading, consulting and processing of grain, oilseeds and crop inputs products and solutions. CASC NA business reaches across Canada, United States & Mexico with an expansive asset footprint including over 200 grain elevators, export/import facilities, oilseed crush plants, biodiesel facilities, and farm service centers.

Reporting to the Operations Manager and the Regional Crop Input Leader, as the Crop Inputs Retail Manager you are expected to provide local crop inputs teams with leadership in customer service, sales, agronomic knowledge, safety, operations, logistics and inventory management. You will lead the crop input facility by engaging customers, executing on all critical processes and systems to build a world class culture around operational excellence and customer service. You will lead and develop operational employees and closely collaborate with sales and agronomy teams. In this role you will plan and execute physical operations on a daily basis as well as focus on both customer service and sales.

Principal Accountabilities:

50% Sell seed, fertilizer and crop protection products to new and existing customers; this includes identifying agronomic needs and helping customers make good crop input decisions, prospecting customers, building customer relationships and closing sales. This will be achieved by:

  • Providing basic crop input recommendations to farm customers

  • Collaborating with the Sales and Agronomy team to ensure customer plans are executed, top line sales and gross margin goals are being achieved

  • Being the primary contact for identified customers and manage the customer account

  • Ensuring outstanding customer service and proactively engage customers in discussing their crop input needs

  • Working with the sales and administration team to manage credit and collection programs

  • Overseeing and managing accounts payables and receivables

40% Safely and efficiently lead the operations of a crop input facility by:

  • Safely performing operations duties to serve customers, such as, blending and loading fertilizer, unloading and loading seed and agricultural chemical products

  • Ensuring proper handling and storage of crop inputs products

  • Supervising, leading and engaging the team on a daily basis

  • Conducting regular plant inspections and holding monthly safety meetings

  • Executing plans and scheduling operations team members to ensure staffing levels are appropriate at all times

  • Ensuring the seasonal staff has proper training and direction

  • Working to ensure that daily operational activities are conducted safely, efficiently and profitably

  • Ensuring proactive maintenance of facilities to ensure safe working environment

  • Retail auditing and inventory management.

10% Collaborate with the Sales and Agromomy team to ensure top line sales and gross margin goals are being achieved. This will include:

  • Actively participating in crop input planning and forecasting

  • Providing input into the location budget; ensuring cost-effective management (P L)

  • Making recommendations and providing input into capital budget analysis and requests

  • Contributing to the development and implement the location’s business plan



  • Post Secondary education in Agriculture, Business or a related field

  • Experience in an agricultural service business environment

  • Knowledge of the crop input business/agronomy

  • Ability to provide basic crop input recommendations to farm customers

  • Ability to identify opportunities and prospects, build customer relationships and close sales

  • Ability to effectively lead a team of diverse employees with demonstrative leadership

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Proven problem solving, decision-making and organizational skills

  • Ability to manage compliance with Environment, Health & Safety and Operations standards and regulations

  • Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada

  • Demonstrate ability in safety thoughts and actions

  • Knowledge of inventory control, operating efficiency and budget management

  • Certified Crop Advisor, P. Ag., or related designation would be an asset
