Cargill Operations Superintendent - Rotational 1st shift. in North Kingstown, Rhode Island
Position Purpose & Summary
The purpose of this role is to supervise, train and develop direct reports and also lead safety and process efficiency initiatives for the facility. This position is accountable for all production responsibilities to meet customer demands. This role requires a high degree of collaboration with Maintenance, FSQR, HR, and EHS to effectively serve our customers, stakeholders, community and the overall corporation:
20% Leadership: Ensure effective and efficient operations with a culture of continuous improvement. Maintain the production practices that support the food safety program in the facility. Monitor product quality and production operations to meet customer expectations. Maximize raw material utilization and optimize best possible return (product yield) at the lowest possible costs (labor, packaging, operating supplies, etc.)
30% Safety: Champion safety processes, ergonomic efforts and creating an environment where all team members hold each other accountable for keeping their co-workers safe. Actively work to prevent/eliminate hazards that cause injury or illness.
40% Engaged Employees: Create an environment where all are expected to be active members of the team – involved in the business. Recognize and celebrate successes. Challenge people to be better than they thought possible. Create opportunities for growth and development. Ensure an inclusive environment that is representative of the local market.
5% New Product Development: Support the R&D department in modifying and development of products. Support the data collection of product performance, and assist in new processes.
5% Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s or higher degree and 5 or more years of food production management and supervisory experience,
OR high school diploma/ GED or higher degree AND 10 or more years of food production management and supervisory experience
Able to travel up to 5% of the time.
5 or more years of Protein (meat) experience
10 or more years of leading teams in a labor intensive manufacturing environment (operations, maintenance, technical services, etc.)
Experience building a culture of teamwork, collaboration, accountability and the empowerment of stakeholders.
Strong listening/communication (verbal and written) skills to connect with a variety of audiences.
Strong people management skills – ability to engage, develop and motivate a large workforce.
Ability to lead by holding self and others accountable; delivers on commitments.
Maintain positive attitude.
Demonstrated team building and conflict resolution skills. Ability to drive innovation and change within the workforce.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to learn other computer systems.
