Description

The Supply Chain Plant Product Lead is responsible to assist in the management of products at one or more plants including innovation, business management, operations, planning and customer service activities. The role interacts with various stakeholders across the business and customers to provide optimal service to customers while optimizing Protein Group resources to deliver expected product line and business results. Areas of responsibility will be focused on the launch of new product introductions and technical expertise on plant processes and products.

60% Supply Chain Operations

  • Assists in managing and regularly contributes to the development and implementation of new products in the assigned plant to achieve expectations in time-frame, product quality, and cost.

  • Assists in managing and regularly contributes to the development and implementation of projects and process improvements in the assigned plant(s) to drive continuous improvement.

  • Assists plant operations to ensure and customer requirements and product expectations are within operational capabilities.

  • Provides input to product specifications and product costings. Understands, reviews and analyzes for opportunities to improve product, reduce cost, combine with like products and identify potential alternative formulas to use available raw materials.

  • May participate on a supply chain Product Lead team to connect supply chain strategy to overall business strategy. Assists in creating the framework to develop solutions for a complex outlook and vision for a larger product line.

30% Customer, Internal Stakeholder and Business Partnership

  • Participates on cross-functional supply chain teams for the purpose of sharing knowledge and experience, as well as best practices.

  • Contributes to cross-functional product line teams in follow-up, investigation, and documentation of internal and external non-conformances, root causes and corrective actions.

  • Develops a strong understanding of customer needs through building internal and external relationships to provide optimal service to Cargill’s customers. Where appropriate, may build relationships with external parties such as consultants and agents.

  • Supports R&D activities in new product development, finalizing product and packaging specs. Supports the Project Manager and Product Lead in finalizing product launch plans. Leads the implementation of new product in the supply chain as well as executing the product life cycle.

  • Has joint accountability for optimizing production resources (assets, raw materials, and labor). Provides input and guidance on product and production decisions to Product Leads, Business Managers and SC Planning. Analyzes the use of raw materials and determines opportunities for optimization.

  • Support SC Planning and SC Leads in gathering information and preparing for Monthly Supply reviews.

  • Lead and facilitate individual projects through the process. Responsible for pulling together the appropriate team members for each project.

  • Assist Product Lead in various product management areas such as:

  • Launching new products & development

  • Manage specific products when designated

10% Data Management, Reporting and Analysis

  • Understands costs and cost models and conducts analysis to determine opportunities to improve the overall health of assigned products.

  • Evaluates performance against competitive external benchmarks to determine relative performance versus the industry and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Reviews production reports to assess production efficiencies and costs.

  • Reviews and monitors scorecard and related KPI’s within assigned plant(s). Identifies opportunities for improvement and recommends approaches for improvement.

Qualifications

Required:

  • B.A. or B.S. degree in operations, food science, meat science, engineering, or related field or business discipline

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Operations, Supply Chain or Continuous Improvement with a proven track record of strong performance results

  • Deep Product expertise on assigned product/platform

  • Deep Plant expertise on assigned plant locations

  • Demonstrated operational and technical knowledge including technical requirements, capacities and costs

  • Understanding of costing systems and product costings

  • Knowledge and experience MOC processes including new product start-up and implementation processes

  • Evaluates situations objectively and demonstrates personal flexibility in approach and ideas, responds positively and supports changes in procedures, process, technology, responsibility and assignments that have a positive impact

  • Organizes and prioritizes work assignment to complete assignments/tasks on time with quality.

Preferred:

  • Experience working in a large complex organization

  • Experience with Lean & Six Sigma

  • Hands on experience in operations and new product introductions is strongly preferred
