As the Environmental Health and Safety Specialist you are responsible for applying general knowledge of environmental health and safety (EHS) practices and standards. You provide knowledge of less complex issues, solutions and problems through the following areas of focus: development and implementation of EHS strategy, maintenance and continuous improvement of EHS results, shaping of the internal EHS culture and management of the external EHS brand. You provide general knowledge of EHS practices and standards across all EHS areas or within a specific area of focus (e.g., compliance, audit). You also provide support in continuous improvement workshops regarding personal safety, safety and environmental system development.

Major Tasks

  • You develop EHS strategy and under direction of more senior team members assesses less complex environmental risks and opportunities and potential impacts on stakeholder priorities

  • You lead or assist in the development of programs and processes involving little interpretation and variation to execute EHS strategy

  • You identify and implement changes to support continuous improvement of less complex EHS programs and processes

  • You organize continuous improvement workshops to contribute to the EHS risk assessment, culture and awareness.

  • You analyse less complex processes and data to identify trends and isolate root causes.

  • You support leaders to implement less complex portions of internal communications strategy for key audiences that build and maintain awareness of Environment, Health and Safety values, strategies, and performance;

  • Using general knowledge of EHS practices and standards, you provide technical, regulatory and behavioural support required to build a strong EHS culture.

  • You design and deliver less complex training solutions related to Environment, Health and Safety issues, practices and risks.

  • With direction from more senior team members, you develop and implement recognition programs to acknowledge positive behaviour and celebrate successes on topics of Environment, Health and Safety.


  • Bachelor’s Degree or 3 years’ experience in an industrial setting with demonstrated participation in Environmental Health and Safety processes.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with Safety and Environmental regulations.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact with multiple levels of the facility and with outside agencies and customers.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Program development and implementation of new or changing regulations.

  • Ability to adapt, manage multiple priorities, and learn in a changing work environment.

  • Effective at interacting with regulatory agencies, facility leadership, plant personnel, and consultants
