Health and Safety Coordinator

The Health and Safety Coordinator will provide facility-wide coordination in all safety and environmental arenas including personal safety, safety system development and compliance, safety training, air, water, and waste program management as well as assisting in compliance strategies for these programs. Conduct audits, observations, and assessments to ensure site is within compliance with all federal, State, and internal health and safety rules. Also review reports and findings to monitor performance and detect trends related to health and safety. Capable of coordinating and communicating with cross functional teams to promote safety culture.

Principal Accountabilities:

40% - Support facility leadership by providing coordination and assisting plant operations in H&S compliance by ensuring proper record keeping of requirements. Responsible for reporting obligations as required by local, state, federal and corporate requirements. Provide H&S technical assistance to the facility. Promoting safety in the plant and participating in goal setting and budget saving processes, in areas of safety and compliance.

30% - Support and coordination of the plant health and safety programs, reporting, initiatives, training and audits. Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures. Develop, maintain, and monitor compliance tools at the facility for EHS compliance, and communicate and implement H&S requirements/regulations for the facility to support plant operations and the business unit. Development of a sustainable proactive H&S compliance culture at the location.

20% - Train plant personnel on H&S subjects and perform internal assessments of H&S compliance systems. Develop strategies that effectively utilizes proactive (preventive and predictive) H&S techniques and performance monitoring to detect early degradation and employ timely solutions to prevent failure or safety gaps. Train plant personnel on H&S subjects and perform internal assessments of EHS compliance systems. Implement and champion existing programs (BBS, HOP, etc.) CPN US employees' understanding of them.

5% - Assist and verify thorough pre-job planning for employees and contractors, including, but not limited to documented job safety analyses and procedures, pre-job hazard assessments (PJHA), planning, documenting, and gaining.

5% - Promote Cargill through involvement in community activities and professional organizations. On-call ability outside normal business hours to assist when needed and any other duties as assigned.

Relocation will not be provided for this position


Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in safety coordinator or EHS Manager role

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

  • Competent computer skills/competency (MS office software)

  • Strong communications skills including writing, speaking and presentation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two-year University Degree

  • 5 years’ experience in the EHS field

  • Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) development and training

  • Process implementation of EHS Policies and Systems

  • Ability to travel (Minimum, for training)

Abilities/ Success Factors:

  • Strong understanding of all applicable local, state and federal regulations

  • Contractor Safety Management experience

  • Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment

  • Excellent organizational and motivational skills

  • Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities

  • Capable of working with cross functional teams

  • The ability to communicate guidelines to a multidisciplinary workforce is essential

  • Must have excellent attention to detail to identify hazards

  • Knowledge of Operational Excellence methodologies and tools (lean Manufacturing)

  • Understanding of worker compensation laws

  • Knowledgeable and understanding of continuous improvement development of safety programs
