Job Purpose and Impact

The Site - Environmental Health and Safety Manager will provide EHS leadership for the location and lead a cross functional specialist Team in the areas Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) as well as Process Safety (PS). In this role, you will support plant operations in ensuring compliance and conformance to local and federal regulations, Cargill EHS programs, as well as managing change and continuous improvement to evolve higher levels of EHS maturity.

This position reports to the Country EHS Lead and leads/works with the local EHS team, plant operations teams and other key stakeholders incl. contractors and governmental agencies to achieve Cargill’s goal of ZERO harm

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead EHS aspects for the location in line with legal and Cargill EHS requirements, expectations and leading practices

  • Directly supervise the site EHS team and keeping a pulse on EHS talent; this includes coaching/mentoring, performance management, talent development, succession planning, recruitment, skill building to satisfy current and anticipated future business and regulatory needs in the country

  • Act as the EHS Single-Point-of-Contact for local/plant leadership team; together with local/plant leadership jointly own accountability for EHS plan execution and EHS performance

  • Promote a strong EHS culture through coaching of local/plant leadership team and site staff to improve and sustain EHS maturity

  • Participate in EHS management reviews; in collaboration with site leadership team and regional EHS team identify and agree on improvement areas and prioritise activities at location level.

  • Support creation and completion of CAPA and manage process to ensure implemented actions are validated

  • Facilitate and participate in EHS audits (ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 & SEDEX )/inspections/assessments/incident investigations to do both, monitor progress and identify areas needing improvement

  • Deploy & maintain Cargill contractor safety management processes, incl. prompt reporting of EHS performance issues and development of a baseline of contractor incidents

  • Improve and oversee emergency response processes and capabilities at location level

  • Review and approve the EHS deliverables of local capital projects and their compliance with Cargill EHS and regulatory requirements

  • Build EHS capability in the local EHS team: Manage, develop and coach site EHS colleagues to enable them to perform at their best

Qualifications

  • Master degree in a related field or equivalent experience

  • related work experience in supervisory roles

  • experience in developing, deploying and implementing environment, health & safety or process safety policies and standards

  • Fluent in English and German – written and oral

  • Confirmed ability to deliver processes effectively to optimize business resources

  • Solid working knowledge of food safety industry practices and standards
