Position Purpose

As a Self-Service Analytics (SSA) Platform Engineer, you will be working with a small team responsible for full stack administration, operation, support and growth of Cargill’s SSA analytic platforms including Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, and Alteryx. These systems enable thousands of users around the globe and this role will help ensuring those systems are resilient, performant, and reliable.

Principal Accountabilities

Platform Engineering: 50%

  • Participates in the design, building, and enhancement of features and capabilities across the various SSA Platform technologies.

  • Supports and assists in the design and build of future state SSA capabilities in line with the needs of Cargill.

  • Leverages modern engineering practices and principles to assist in the building of platform capabilities, such as cloud deployments, automation, and monitoring.

  • Assists in driving a software delivery model that supports the current multi-location, multi-continent, multi-cultural operating framework of Cargill.

  • Documents features and capabilities in support of a useable, consumable, customer-centric platform.

  • Assists in building prototypes to prove out concepts.

  • Participates in scrum/agile practices: backlog grooming, sprint planning, sprints, scrums, team retros and demos.

Platform Operations: 20%

  • Collaborates with other members of SSA Platform team to maintain awareness on the health of overall SSA Platform capabilities and components.

  • Operationally supports the platforms including break/fix and service requests; 24x7 on-call support when needed; Tier 2 community support.

Relationships / Community: 20%

  • Partners with the Software Asset Management (SAM) team and IT Asset Management (ITAM) Lead to maintain and support asset (licensing) management and software distribution.

  • Maintains SSA’s collaborative working relationships with the broader IT engineering community including the network, proxy, IHS (infrastructure hosting services), security (TGRC) and cloud teams.

  • Coordinates multi-disciplinary teams as required to troubleshoot and resolve issues outside the scope of SSA’s expertise.

  • Works closely with Cargill’s internal communities to gather feedback and drive reliable platform services and features.

  • Provides key insights about the platforms including performance and adoption to community stakeholders.

Mentoring / Coaching: 10%

  • Helps provide analytics tools and platforms subject matter expertise to the SSA community (and team) including topics such as performance best practices, sharing and security.

  • Demonstrates work to the broader Cargill community through public demos and in small group or individual coaching sessions.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree OR 4 years of equivalent work experience.

  • 2 year of experience with administering globally distributed business applications with ability to optimize for resiliency and latency.

  • Experience with deployment and administration of a BI or analytics platform components such as Tableau Server; Tableau Mobile; Power BI Cloud Service; Power BI Premium; Power BI Gateway; Power BI Embedded; Power BI Mobile; Alteryx Server or Alteryx Connect.

  • Experience with infrastructure automation, infrastructure as code, automated application deployment, monitoring/telemetry, log aggregation or reporting/dashboarding.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with data modeling and design practices and tools including Alteryx and Tableau Prep.

  • Experience with data visualization practices and tools including Power BI or Tableau.

  • Experience on how to find, consume, transform, mashup, blend, analyze and uncover insight in data.

  • Experience with package management and patching strategy and tooling.

  • Experience with Windows and Linux systems administration.

  • Experience with enterprise networking and routing, including interface config, DNS, proxies, firewalls.

  • Experience with TLS including certificate management and troubleshooting.

  • Experience with contemporary scripting languages including JavaScript, Python and R.

  • Experience with front and back end software development with languages like Java (and associated frameworks), .NET (including .NET Core), JavaScript, Ruby, Python, etc.

  • Experience with container technologies: Docker, Kubernetes.

  • Experience with the Agile mindset.

  • Experience working in virtual teams across multiple time zones with multiple cultures.
