Position Purpose & Summary

Responsible for managing the local EAST technical service team to support business development (through NPSS and NBD) and defense of existing business, supporting the BU Strategy.

Responsible for building and developing a high performing team that is technically trained and customer focused, to meet demands and to understand our customers unmet/poorly met needs.

Contribute to the identification of unmet/poorly met needs/jobs to done/opportunity space/hassle maps (pains and gains) in the market place.

Responsible for the direct provision of technical support as Technical Tag to segmented customers, to build and defend business personally, across all product lines and all applications, supporting the BU strategy on customer segmentation.

Contribute to the EMEA R&D team management and development.

Principal Accountabilities

40% Talent Management

  • Provide leadership and talent management of own team and contribute to the leadership and talent management of CTS R&D JF

  • Attract select, onboard, develop and retain talent

  • Manage and develop a high performing team of direct reports (talent pool), including strategic work force planning, development plans and succession planning

  • Value and leverage differences

  • Ensure good manufacturing and EHS practices.

20% Technology Leader

  • Feedback market trends, ideas, unmet needs, opportunities, pains, gains etc. to the Opportunity Space process

  • Develop own technical knowledge re ingredients, applications, capabilities and skills

  • Network with other Cargill colleagues to share common practices and to leverage technology, customer and market knowledge – other ATSM, TDM. FIS AL, CT, GFR, BioTDC etc.

  • Network with external Center of Expertise and Category Industry Associations.

  • Communicate effectively with all key stakeholders through agreed reporting systems.

  • Build differentiated technical solutions – re NBD and NPSS

20% Business Management

  • Build a prioritized and performing project portfolio in to build and defend value. Priority setting will be done through the BU guidelines (from the strategy) and in dialogue with the technical job family and commercial teams, focusing on CTS ingredients while supporting Cargill success

  • Build own and team goals to align with the strategy and engage the team

  • Leverage the know-how generated from all projects (search and re-apply).

  • Collaborate with BU Commercial and Technical Leaders to anticipate industry trends.

  • Contribute to identification of the best opportunities for the business and Cargill in general, providing innovative and differentiated technologies.

  • Contribute to the development of new applications/ranges etc.

  • Coordinate technical training seminars and customer presentations with the commercial teams to build value.

  • Ensure that solutions comply with local and regional regulations.

  • Support the SKU management to optimize value creation.

  • Support Cargill’s intellectual property strategy.

20% Customer Partnership

  • Provide technical support to and build relationships with existing and new customers according to the catalog of services and segmentation, to create value for both the customer and CTS as the

  • Technical Tag (TT), and as support when not the TT.

  • This is including defensive work (for existing sales) and growth through new business development (NBD) and new product, service and solutions (NPSS))

  • This includes customer support such as optimization of recipes; the support/management of product launches, complaints, trouble shooting, training, lab / pilot/ plant trials at both Cargill and customer facilities and support to SKU & range management

  • To be done in collaboration with the commercial team, and specifically the Account Manager when named.

  • Using the business tools – from Market Academy, Jobs to be Done, Value Proposition. etc.

  • With strong Sales Effectiveness skills (presence, rapport, listening, questioning, checking, positioning, synthesizing, connecting, feeding back (giving & taking)


  • BSc (or BAC 5) or MSc or equivalent vocational education/apprenticeship in Food Science, Technology or related topic

  • Practical experience in applying texturizing (and emulsifying) ingredients in food

  • Customer facing technical service experience

  • Experience with specific main categories like Dairy and Convenience

  • Managing projects of at least Level 1A or low rigor

  • More than 10 years’ experience once fully trained (7y if MSc; 5y if Ph.D.) in Technical Service provision for texturizing ingredients in the food industry

  • Experience in a Texturant Ingredient supplier as TS or R&D leader

  • At least 5 years’ experience in supervising and managing a technical team.

  • Demonstrable successful results in managing a technical team

  • Demonstrable successful results in a technical position.

  • Experience with cross-functional and multi-cultural teams.

  • Demonstrated experience in effectively building and managing customer relationships.

  • Experience at building competitive advantage through the use of the organization’s technical capabilities, and by providing product innovation and other creative solutions.

  • Proven experience on how to effectively execute within a matrix organization. Good tolerance of ambiguity combined with an active approach to problem- solving

  • Fluent in spoken and written English and German

  • Team management and development/coaching

  • Technical expertise in B2B or B2C industries covering relevant ingredients for the category.

  • Extensive category technology expertise and networking in category application segments.

  • Technical knowledge and experience in Hydrocolloids, Starch, Lecithins and Functional systems in food use

  • Project management

  • Negotiation awareness

  • Prioritization / time management

  • Presentation skills

  • Ability to effectively represent Cargill’s technical expertise to customers and make effective presentations.

  • Ability to translate industry/market trends into new opportunities and solutions for existing and new customers/markets.

  • Ability to assess strengths and weaknesses of the competition and develop solution strategies.
