Canola Breeding Research Internship:

Cargill Specialty Seeds and Oils is an industry leader in the development, production, and marketing of high oleic oil- a trans-fat-free alternative for the food industry known for its superior nutrition, improved stability, and excellent taste. Research and plant breeding, certified seed production, contracting, crushing, and marketing are also included. Cargill’s Specialty Canola Production Program offers farm businesses high performing Victory and Invigor Health Hybrids and unique advantages, such as attractive prime basis, risk management solutions and grower-selected delivery periods.

As a Canola Breeding Research Intern, you will work with the Canola Breeder and Agronomy team to manage and maintain canola research plots in Montana. The private research trials that you manage will be used in the evaluation of specialty canola oil varieties with commercial potential. We are looking for highly ambitious, innovative, have desire for continuous learning and are able to quickly adapt to a rapidly evolving and highly motivated research team environment

You will assist in successful research trial management, which includes tissue sampling, note taking, pollinating, harvesting, and data collection. You will work with an interdisciplinary team including other research and support teams to organize resources effectively and to meet all business objectives.

Internship Programming:

  • Cargill offers both housing assistance and relocation reimbursement to interns who qualify (based on mileage).

  • This is a 12 week paid internship beginning May 20th, 2019

  • Day–to-day transportation to and from work is the responsibility of the intern.

  • Interns who demonstrate exceptional performance and a curiosity to learn more may be offered a full-time position for the following year.

  • Willing to travel if needed

Job Locations:

  • Great Falls, Montana and surrounding areas

  • Farm setting


Required Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or diploma from an accredited program in an Agriculture-related field

  • Right to work in the U.S. that is not based solely on possession of a student visa or a visa sponsored by a third-party employer

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures

  • All candidates must be geographically flexible and willing to relocate for an internship opportunity anywhere in the U.S.

  • Able to complete a 12-week internship in the summer ( May 20th – August 9th , 2019)

  • Must possess a high degree of initiative and resourcefulness in completing work with limited guidance

  • Must be able to complete essential functions of this job as outlined in the job description with reasonable accommodations

  • A valid US driver’s license and clean driving record

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Agriculture

  • Overall 3.0 GPA or higher preferred

  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to operate machinery
