Position Purpose & Summary

The purpose of this position, and this role’s primary deliverable, is to develop the programs and team capability in the region for raw materials quality and food safety management, in order to build a capability that can support the growth aspirations of the business. This person will be responsible for evaluating, recommending and executing a strategic approach to delivering raw materials quality and food safety management in a highly effective and efficient way. Specifically, this leader will provide management and leadership, including the coaching, training and development of key FSQR, commercial and supply chain leaders (both direct and dotted line reports) in food safety and quality specific to raw materials storage, handling, import and export. The SEA Grains FSQR Leader will spend the majority of their time in the facilities, working directly with their FSQR reports, and with facility employees and commercial teams to facilitate alignment to customer, CASC AP, and corporate requirements. This individual will interact regularly with customers and regional business personnel (plant, logistics, trading and merchandizing, etc.).

Principal Accountabilities


Provide management and leadership in the area of raw materials quality management for the region. This includes the coaching, training and development of key FSQR, commercial and supply chain leaders (including direct and dotted line reports) in food safety, quality and regulatory matters specific to raw materials storage, handling, import and export. Drive FSQR capability development, building strong programs and strong teams as a foundation to enable delivery of customer quality requirements, facility shrink and claims trends analysis, and accountability to internal FSQR requirements.


Design, implement, lead and ensure execution of facility quality assurance and feed safety programs throughout the region for the management raw materials quality. Design, implement and lead a COE approach for raw materials quality management, providing technical support to CASC AP grain operations, trading and merchandising, trade ex and logistics teams. Facilitate answers to questions related to grain conditioning, storage, and quality; food safety; biotechnology; inventory management; facility security; sanitary and phytosanitary regulations (with support from regulatory teams), and learn, design and leverage best practices on the same across the World Wide Grain team.


Design and implement training on grain conditioning, storage, and quality; food safety; biotechnology; grain IP procedures; and inventory management. Ensure maintenance and updating of the policy manuals and internal website sections on Fumigation, Food Safety, Grain Warehousing, and Loss Control as necessary. Drive consistent application of policies and procedures across the AP region.


Act as a liason between regional supply chain and regulatory teams, (and with regional governmental and trade industry organizations as applicable), on issues related to grain grades, weights, standards, food safety, biotechnology, sanitory and phytosantitary regulations. Stay current with industry external environoment changes (i.e., to standards, regulations, etc.) and communicate to broader team as appropriate.

Education, Experience, Skills

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific/technical discipline such Agricultural Engineering, FoodScience, or equivalent on the job experience.

  • 3 to 4 years field experience

  • Demonstrated leadership skills

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact effectively

  • Proven ability to work successfully in a team and with facilities teams

  • Proven effective problem solving and decisions making skills

  • Proven effective conflict management skills

  • Demonstrated self motivation and curiosity

  • Knowledge of grain quality and food safety issues

  • Knowledge of grain handling practices

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working relationship within grain industry, with import/export requirements and some exposure to associated government requirements.

  • Background working with trading, merchandizing and logistics teams as it relates to the coordination of import/export quality requirements to meet contract and origin and/or destination requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to manage a team and to lead via influence with dotted line, diverse stakeholders.

  • Inventory management skills

  • Working knowledge of inventory and quality management systems

  • Project management skills

  • General understanding of sanitory and phytosanitary requirements applied to grains.

  • General understanding of GMO vs. non GMO handling requirements and systems for IP management.

The position will expose the individual to diverse work groups, both internal and external to Cargill. Success in this role will allow the individual to transition into larger roles in the BOSC function (i.e., BOSC, Operations, EHS, CTL, FSQR, Trade Ex etc. leadership), or even potentially into commercial roles, including trading or merchandizing.
