Position purpose

A Food Safety, Quality and Regulatory (FSQR) Specialist I is responsible for providing specialized knowledge of specific segments of our FSQR systems and/or plant processes. Examples of specialization include: food safety and quality auditing, instrumentation, specific product line knowledge, computers systems (data management), management and/or oversight of suppliers or external manufacturing facilities and other needed focus areas. This position is responsible for ensuring that all products are produced in a food safe and quality manner, managing both in process and finished product activities as well as laboratory release of all finished product data. This position may be directly tied to production area(s) providing support for specialized testing, input to process management, plant trials, pest control and/or sanitation. The process support includes broad encompassing areas such as: design of experiments, evaluation of new equipment, coordination of projects, training of operations as well as auditing of process performance and systems, food safety risk assessment, calibration and/or development of new instrumentation or computer systems. This position may be involved in preparation and participation in customer audits. FSQR Specialist I may supervise one or more interns, lab technicians, chemist I or FSQR Chemist II.

Principal Responsibilities

35% In-depth management of specific segments of quality management systems (i.e. food safety, instrumentation, computers, specific product lines or other quality systems, etc.), providing support for operations or other functional areas where needed.

30% Process monitoring, system improvement support, specialized testing, training, plant trials, auditing of systems and performance.

25% Customer/supplier/co-manufacturer interaction, presentations, response to audits and issues, enterprise and local execution of best practice initiatives.

10% Miscellaneous job related duties i.e. supervision of interns, FSQ technicians, chemists I/II, recruiting, operations, or supervisory support.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in sciences field and minimum 3 year FSQR Experience OR 7 years of FSQR Experience

  • Able to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends

  • Able to travel when needed up to 5%.

  • Previous experience with quality systems including knowledge of food safety and HACCP systems.

  • Experience interacting with internal and external customers.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills including courage, conviction, and integrity.

  • Knowledge and experience in the production of caustic, HCL and bleach.

  • Computer application experience with SAP.

  • Strong Chemistry base and knowledge of analytical methods and instrumentation including chromatography techniques such as High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), IC, ICP and Gas Chromatography (GC).

  • Knowledge of Quality Management systems and plant processes.
