Position Purpose & Summary

The Marketing Communications Lead leads the marketing communication activities for the Cargill Aqua Nutrition (CQN) Group. This role is expected to execute the communications (internal / external), support media channels (digital, social, trade, etc.), ensure effective branding use, and align with the Global Communications team. This position will work in a fast-pace environment, simplify the complexity with stakeholders (senior leaders, business leaders, etc.), coordinate the communications & thought leadership across 20 geographies, and narrate the exciting aqua nutrition work.

The Marketing Communications Lead is responsible for all CQN communications. This role aligns with Group priorities, leads the communication strategy & planning, influences senior leaders (Group, Business, Commercial), develops tomorrow’s leaders, interacts with clients / strategic partners, manages budget resources, and achieves financial expectations. Additional responsibilities include leading an experienced network of marcomm leaders (e.g. strategic marketing, communication, etc.), guiding the go-to-market brand & effectiveness, managing reputation with Global Communications, delivering the channel communications (e.g. digital, social, trade, etc.), leveraging Cargill Animal Nutrition(CAN) Strategic Marketing and Technology(SMT) capabilities (Market Insights, Innovation, Nutrition Excellence), and supporting cross-enterprise seafood work. This position is on the CQN Group SMT leadership team.

The Cargill Aqua Nutrition Group operates in over 20 countries serving customers as a part of the Cargill Animal Nutrition enterprise (Cargill Feed & Nutrition, Cargill Premix & Nutrition, Cargill Aqua Nutrition). Today, the CAN enterprise operates in over 40 countries and employs over 20,000 employees to serve customers.

Principal Accountabilities

50%Marketing Communication: responsible to lead the Group marketing communications (internal / external) execution, invest resources, manage material (production, storage, logistics), ensure effectiveness & reach, and coordinate with CAN global communications team

  • Responsible for executing overall internal and external marketing communications strategy (e.g. selected trade announcements, article development/approval, product position statements, newsletters, internal websites, leadership updates of communication activities)

  • Lead and execute the creative strategy of marketing communications projects (i.e. sales support, Power Point product decks, communications to Managing Directors supporting product introduction; newsletters, websites, social media supporting products, advertising, direct/web marketing, packaging, customer presentations and product prototyping, meeting/special events, advertorials, and brand communication)

  • Collaborate with Cargill Global Communications Manage Go-to-Market websites including: elements of design, species content management, brand management.

  • Use thorough knowledge of marketing and communication tools to lead strategy and planning of marketing communication activities, including digital and social strategies supporting product campaigns and launches, and overall marketing campaigns to drive and support customer needs & business growth

  • Collaborate with SMT Lead to develop a marketing communication plan for the business and maintain creative direction, including features/functionality and value propositions (e.g. design, tone, messaging)

  • Prepare marketing strategies and programs with product line leaders / specialists for a product(s) launch by evaluating product performance to help develop and update company goals / objectives and recommending changes to current product development procedures based on market research and new trends

  • Implement the marketing communication strategy through maintenance and execution of communication channels (e-mail marketing, social media, blogs, mobile marketing, web content) by sourcing, writing, editing and publishing content, along with other efforts (e.g. print, trade media, product apps, advertorials, webinars, trade shows, customer collateral, etc.)

  • Accountable for measurement and metrics on campaign effectiveness, including digital land social media, in coordination with Global Comms

25%Client & business focus: responsible to interact with clients, build strategic stakeholder networks, strengthen thought leadership, and strengthen overall customer / consumer experience

  • Manage traditional client relationships, responsible for agency partnership negotiations, assist in key vendor selections, and identify strategic opportunities to strengthen the client value

  • Consult leadership teams (Enterprise, Group, Business, Commercial, Shared services) on marketing communication, including the network, activities, effectiveness, message consistency (tone, creative, experience), and channel focus

  • Collaborate with CAN Global Communications team on strategy, approach, and execution to support Group / Business marketing & sales teams on branded product portfolio, channel, sales collateral and others

  • Become a thought leader by engaging Cargill in external forums (Industry, trade, Universities, Industry, Legislative policy, Strategic Customers), strategic partnerships and other communication efforts

  • Accountable for timely, effective, and tone of communications for Cargill Aqua Nutrition to strengthen customer/consumer experience, improve brand/product awareness, and increase revenue

15%People First: responsible to develop marketing communication network (i.e. identify, recruit, develop, and retain), supporting the Global Communications, working in high-performance teams, and influencing stakeholders

  • Responsible to collaborate and lead marketing communications network, link with the Cargill Global Communications team, and execute swiftly with high-performance across various channels and stakeholders

  • Accountable to join strategic discussions, coordinate the marketing communications network activities, ensure a high-performance culture across the network, and assist recruitment / development of communication leaders

10%Business execution/resources: responsible to achieve expected results within the Cargill Aqua Nutrition Group

  • Align with priorities of senior leaders (Enterprise, Group, Business, Cross-enterprise), allocate resources, execute activities, and deliver timely results

  • Responsible for budget, key performance metrics, project oversight (cost estimating, results), and marketing communication effectiveness with stakeholders and customers

  • Support CQN to become known as a global / regional thought leader


Education, Experience, Skills

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Leadership skills with senior leaders, stakeholder management, cultural diversity & inclusion, and complex business environment at all levels of the organization partnering with internal departments

  • Experience of 8 years in marketing and communications with proven track record of high-performance teams in communication, digital media, social media channels

  • Education of bachelor’s degree (i.e. journalism, marketing, public relations or communications), related fields or comparable expertise / experience

  • Competency in interpersonal skills (written, verbal, listening, communications, and working with others), convert complex technical information to clear messaging), English fluency, deep understanding of media (digital, social, trade, etc.), and resource planning (financials, talent), computer skills (website development, photoshop, etc.), and entrepreneurial approach (sense-of-urgency, relentless determination) for execution

  • Proven performance in building trust quickly with leaders, thinking critically to solve problems, creating narratives and influencing stakeholders across the business, internal and external

  • Travel globally up to 20% where Cargill Aqua Nutrition conducts business

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education of master’s degree or comparable experience

  • Experience in animal nutrition, food production, strategic marketing, and/or start-up businesses with ability to ‘think on your feet’ and adapt quickly to changing circumstances. Professional, outgoing, and enthusiastic attitude with the ability to network effectively and establish relationships with customers, partners, media contacts, influencers etc.

  • Background presentations, storytelling, multi-tasking and strategic planning skills with a willingness to learn, along with creating narratives to captivate, influence, and persuade targeted audiences and stakeholders

  • Leadership experience in a multi-national organization or indirect influence (matrix environment)

  • Business skills with customer focus, functional leadership, and animal nutrition (salmon, shrimp, fish, others)

  • Fluency in Mandarin, Spanish, Portuguese or other languages where Animal Nutrition conducts business
