Position Purpose

As an Agronomy Research Assistant, you will work with the Research Agronomist to manage and maintain canola research plots in Western Canada. The private research trials that you manage will be used in the evaluation of specialty canola oil varieties with commercial potential. We are looking for highly ambitious, innovative, have desire for continuous learning and are able to quickly adapt to a rapidly evolving and highly motivated research/ team environment.

Principal Accountabilities

50% You will assist in successful research trial management, which includes seeding cultivating, spraying, harvesting, and data collection.

35% You will operate and perform some maintenance on small plot equipment, including seeders, sprayers, swathers and combines.

15% You will work with an interdisciplinary team including other research and support teams to organize resources effectively and to meet all business objectives.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school Diploma

  • Experience in Agriculture

  • Demonstrated leadership skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, self-motivated and attentive to detail

  • Strong problem solving, analytical, decision-making, and organizational skills

  • Willing to travel if needed within Western Canada

  • A valid Canadian driver's license and clean driving record

  • Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada

Preferred

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree or diploma from an accredited program in an Agriculture-related field

  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to operate machinery
