Cargill Maintenance Electrician in Brampton, Ontario

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Completing preventative, predictive, and reactive maintenance throughout the facility while working in a fast-paced environment around raw meat

  • Complete scheduled quantitative preventative maintenance inspections on critical equipment

  • Work independently and/or cooperatively with personnel of various departments to troubleshoot and resolve electrical, control and process systems problems

  • Complete installation of new equipment

  • Operating forklifts and/or scissor lifts

  • Participate in meetings, training activities, and in the plant safety program

  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties

  • Documenting completed work and the conditions found, utilizing maintenance computer software as necessary

  • Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions in a warm or cool environment, as well as slippery surfaces at varied heights

  • Standing for long periods of time, the use of stairs and ladders, and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated areas of the facility

  • Understanding and adhering to all safety rules and regulations

  • Maintaining a safe and clean work environment

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada

  • Cargill requires that employees be a minimum of 18 years old

  • Ability to perform physical job duties which may include bending, lifting up to 50lbs, kneeling, climbing, crawling, and twisting safely, with or without a reasonable accommodation

  • Ability to work in varied indoor and outdoor conditions which may include heat, cold, dust, loud noise, etc., with the use of personal protective equipment.

  • Ability to work in elevated areas (4 feet and above)

  • Ability to understand and communicate in English (verbal/written)

  • Ability to operate machinery and/or industrial equipment with or without reasonable accommodation

  • High School diploma or Equivalent

  • Basic use of a computer

  • Ability to work overtime including weekends, holidays, or different shifts with advance notice

  • Pursuing or in possession of the Interprovincial Red Seal Electrician trade certification

  • Knowledge of motor control and troubleshooting

  • Experience with variable frequency drives and various type of sensors

  • Basic knowledge of industrial safety, food safety and environmental regulations with absolute commitment to safety

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the grain industry or related food industries

  • Working experience with Modicon 984 and Quantum PLCs

  • Power distribution (600V, 12.47kV and 69kV) equipment installation and operation

  • Programming experience with ladder logic, function block, and structured text

  • Experience with PROFIBUS, MODBUS and MODBUS+, Ethernet, fiber optic and industrial wireless communications installations and troubleshooting

  • Knowledge and training in workplace electrical safety standards and arc flash hazards

  • Forklift certification

  • Experience with SAP or a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office software, with an emphasis on Excel and Word
